With a healthy dose of get outside and just go for it spirit, the 15 individual “bunkhouses” at CAMP are designed to be your basecamp for exploring the island's bounty. CAMP is our modern riff recalling happy memories of our youthful years; family road trips, the smell of campfire infused clothing, salt air, cedar, and of course storytelling!
The dream is that CAMP will occupy the sunny Southwest corner of the site closest to the beach, flanked by several mature cedar and fir trees along its western edge. The vision is to set the bunkhouses among sandy dunes dotted with beach grasses that occupied us for hours of adventure as kids.
One acre of lush native northwest marine landscape surrounds the fifteen 250 square foot proposed bunkhouses that can accommodate up to 6 guests each. A queen bed in the private pullman, 2 twins in the loft and a double fold out sofa bed make for a full house. Thoughtful details drawn from camping and boating experiences over the years include: durable and washable surfaces, convenient places to hang wet stuff to dry, bang off dirty boots, store your gear and hang out with friends and family.
Some of our best camp-life memories are of meeting interesting locals and travelers on our journeys. Stories retold and appropriately exaggerated over the years are now family lore.
The existing historic Brick House will serve as the Community Living Room for visitors and locals alike to hang out and knit new tall tales. Food, drink, music, board games, puzzles, and comfortable places to lounge by the fire are the vision.
The adjacent new Greenhouse Building is imagined to front the village street and would be the ultimate “mess tent” for CAMP life. Fern, fauna and light filled, this glassy convertible building with roll up garage doors is a warm sunny respite in winter and an al fresco dining room on sunny summer days. Open to the stream side patio, and stocked with locally sourced healthy fare. This Modern Grange Hall is where we hope to be hanging out.
